Grade 3/4 were able to show their learning in a dictation test this week.  They have also been building their skills with the Curwen hand signs for singing the Daily Do.

February 12, 2020

Students have started practicing singing using solfegge and the Curwen hand signs to show where the pitches are.  They are also playing 'duration war.'

February 7. 2020

We have begun to look at note duration.  Students are learning the differences between the length of different notes.  We also learned a new song/game 'Bumblebee.'

January 31, 2020

This week students finished their second dictation quiz.  They are getting very good at the movements for "Stomping, then add a clap."

We are also going to start a new way of sharing our talents in music.  Once a month a few students will share a special musical talent with their class.  It can be performed in class, bring in a recording, send a video, or something else.  If your child suggested bringing in or sending a recording, I will be emailing parents soon about it.  I am very excited to get to observe the many talents of Ramsay students!

CHOIR starts next week.  Please have the student permission form back to your child's teacher by Friday, January 17, 2020.  Thank you, I am looking forward to singing with your child.

January 10, 2020

This was the first week where the grade 3/4 class had two music classes.  We are working on rounds and have just been introduced to the song "Sally Go 'Round."  Also we have been working on noticing how many sounds we hear on the beat and being able to what note to write down.  Music dictation is valuable for appreciating the music we hear.

December 12, 2019

Students have been practicing playing Boomwhackers.  This week we increased the skill level in playing Boomwhackers by moving on to "Sugar Plum Fairy #2."  This has two different music lines going at the same time, creating more harmony in the music.

December 5, 2019

In music this week students were playing the Boomwhackers.  The song they started with was "Africa,"  then we began "Sugar Plum Fairy #1."

November 27, 2019

Students continued to practice rhythms with "Stella Ella Olla" and rhythm cards.  They also were introduced to Boomwhackers by seeing some songs played by the famous Harvard University Boomwhacker group called 'Thud.'

November 22, 2019

Students are practicing rhythms with rhythm cards.  We added instruments to the song "Winter is Here" as well.  Students are getting very good at the rhythms and singing of the song game, "Stella Ella Olla."

November 15, 2019

"The Animal Fair" was completed this week with students using an ostinato underneath the main song.  Students started the song, "Winter is Here" with instruments as well.

October 24, 2019

This week in music, students were learning the song, 'Tongo.'  This is a Polynesian rowing song.  The class learned the words to the song (which are not in English) and then the class was split into 5 groups, each having a part.  Each group was also asked to make up some body percussion to go with the song.  This song will be continued after next week.

Yours musically,

Ms. Courtney
